What Is a Flexible Budget?įlexible budgets are essentially budgets that can be adjusted depending upon revenue and cost changes throughout the fiscal year, accounting for expected unpredictability. Specifically, we’ll examine why traditional budgeting methodologies are too rigid for startups and discuss how to gain flexibility without sacrificing accountability. Here we’ll delve deeper into the quantitative component of that: budgeting. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, it’s a good idea to check that out. In a previous article we covered the what, when and how of rolling forecasts. Businesses of all sizes are realizing they need to be nimbler and more flexible in their planning, hence the increased adoption of rolling forecasts. All the forward-looking planning in the world can go right into left field in the face of, say, a global pandemic. By mid-August, dozens of games had been canceled or postponed.Īs Yogi Berra said, “The future ain’t what it used to be.”īusinesses are finding that to be true when it comes to budgeting. What Else To Look For in the Best Cheap Stocks To Buy NowĪ low P/E or P/FFO ratio is the minimum criteria, but you should dig deeper. We will include Alphabet as one of the best cheap stocks to buy now. The stock’s ratio is 22.6X, which is below its 5-year range of 23.3X and 27.4X, so not super cheap, but still a deal. Both metrics are a measure of valuation.įor example, the stock price of Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) has declined almost 19% year-to-date (but it is still $118.12!) That certainly doesn’t sound cheap, but is it? How do we know? The P/E ratio tells us the stock is undervalued and cheap. One method is to examine price-to-earnings ratios (P/E ratios) for regular stocks or price-to-funds from operations (P/FFO) for real estate investment trusts (REITs). “So understand the company and how it creates a profit.”Ī way to find cheap stocks is to start with a stock screener and do some research on your own. “Most of these people don’t ever look at the nuts and bolts like the statement of cash flow, their financial ratios, their 10-Q, and 10-K, etc.,” said Certified Financial Planner Blaine Thiederman of Progress Wealth Management in Arvada, Colorado. In addition, some people and sites provide lists of low-priced stocks but don’t dig deeper. Eventually, stock valuations drop, and overvalued stocks suffer the most. The financial news is full of reports of stocks with double-digit or triple-digit gains. “Penny stocks are not well regulated, provide less company information to investors, have a lower trading volume, and are vulnerable to scams.” How To Find Cheap Stocks?īy their very nature, cheap stocks are harder to find than overvalued ones. “Some of the lowest-priced stocks are penny stocks,” says Muira. However, it may be worth very little if the company has little potential or serious issues.” “A stock may be cheap in terms of the price per share. “A low-priced stock doesn’t mean it’s good value,” said Danielle Miura, Certified Financial Planner of Spark Financials in Ripon, California. It is quite remarkable that without an understanding of the metallurgical systems involved, the Lydians succeeded in very effectively separating the gold and silver in the electrum, allowing them to develop a bimetallic coinage system. Some of those effects all of which increase your blood pressure include: Circulatory system: causes your blood vessels to tighten and narrow. Extended heating below the melting point of gold resulted in removal of the silver as silver chloride, which could then be treated to recover the silver. The electrum was beaten flat and placed in the pot between layers of a salt-containing compound. This work is described in great detail in the book King Croesus’ Goldby Andrew Ramage of Cornell University and Paul Craddock of the British Museum.Ĭareful analysis by the British Museum of the archaeological materials recovered from Sardis showed quite clearly that the refining was carried out in earthenware pots, an example of which is shown here. If enalapril makes you feel dizzy when you stand up, try. Two things made the Croesus coinage different: firstly, the use of a mould to form a minted image (the heads of a lion and a bull) on one face, with the punch mark on the other and secondly, the use of purified gold rather than electrum as the coinage metal.īut how did the Lydians process the electrum and thus produce refined gold? The likely answer was provided by the excavations at Sardis, the Lydian capital, in 1968. Cough medicines do not usually help coughs caused by enalapril. Because supplements may have side effects or interact with medications, you should take them only under the supervision of a knowledgeable health care provider. And they had produced simple electrum coinsby marking small melted buttons with a rectangular punch. Long before Croesus, the Lydians had already discovered how to recover the naturally occurring gold-silver metal known as electrum from the sands of the legendary River Pactolus. It is important to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. If you have any side effects, let your GP know as soon as. Warnings: This drug can cause serious (possibly fatal) harm to an unborn baby if used during pregnancy. In the middle of the sixth century BCE, the great innovation of King Croesus of Lydia (in modern day Western Anatolia in Turkey) was the introduction of gold coinage such as the Croesus Stater. What are the possible side effects About one in ten people experience a dry, irritating cough. I haven't tested the above because I don't want to reboot, but I'm pretty sure that's how you do it.Make this load at boot by modifying /boot/nf and adding: linux_load="YES".On your FreeNAS host, get a shell and type: kldload linux.Add storage (I concur that anything you attach should be in Read-Only mode).I tried following the instructions here but kept having trouble, so here is my attempt to fill in the gaps by providing step-by-step what worked for me. I'm using FreeNAS 9.3 and was having trouble getting this going (current version in ports tree as of this writing is 5.1.8). Finally “SpiderOak -headless” this starts SpiderOak and tells it to do what it does and start processing files and uploading them!. Next you want to go, “SpiderOak -include-dir=/mnt/mystuff”, this says hey I want that folder and all of its subfolders backed up.O This will prompt you for your login, and ask you to provide a new machine name. This is the first command to run, “SpiderOak -setup=-“. Now a quick tutorial on actually running SpiderOak from the Jail Shell, This will install SpiderOak and all of its prerequisites. cd /usr/ports/net/spideroak/ & make install cleanġ1. The above two steps will not be necessary when some nice FreeBSD developer finds the time to update the Fresh Ports website with a newer batch of SpiderOak source code.Ī. “make makesum” from the spideroak port directory.ĩ. Luckily for us no dependencies changed from 5.1.1 to 5.1.3 so all we have to do is run the command:Ī. Almost there, these files use checksums to prevent tampering. Change the PORT VERSION from 5.1.1 to 5.1.3Ĩ. Under /usr/ports/net/spideroak there is a “Makefile”, open this in your favourite text editor, I choose notepad Jī. Now because the filename is different the make file will fail!Ī. You need to put that file into /usr/ports/distfiles in the Jail and rename it (I did this just via a SAMBA share on my windows box). Clicking that link will actually redirect you to version 5.1.3, which is both smart and stupid for reasons we’ll get to.Ĭ. Now we need to download the source code for SpiderOak, this requires a little bit of manual trickery to get working:ī. Open up the link below in any browser and have a read, someone else has kindly done the work of porting SpiderOak to FreeBSD (which FreeNAS is based on), Ħ. From the FreeNAS Shell run the command “kldload linux”, this allows Linux emulation to be installed into the jail.Ĥ. Add some storage to your Jail so it can read the files you want to send to SpiderOak, I’d recommend Read Only:ģ. Create a Jail from the GUI, of type “portjail”.Ģ. I used this guide here to help me understand FreeBSD ports, ġ. Shell on the FreeNAS box, note the command line says launched from the Jail, note it says we are going to install the FreeBSD Port of SpiderOak onto our FreeNAS Jail. I’m running FreeNAS 9.2, first up you need to be familiar with the concept a “Jail” and the difference between running a Shell command on the FreeNAS box itself compared to running a Shell command on the Jail itself. It ended up not being that hard, so I thought I’d post a short “How To” here for other people to follow. My first challenge was getting it to run on FreeNAS. I am coming at this from a fairly new to FreeBSD - Windows user. I'm not affiliated with SpiderOak in anyway, the attached PDF has images, this is a straight copy/paste from the Word file I originally wrote for this post. They recently had some sales on storage so I bit the bullet and dived into paid storage, up until now I’d been on the free plan with just a few GB. I’ve been a fan of SpiderOak for years it’s a great alternative to DropBox for me. So whether you want to store, access or share pictures of your family, a paper you've been working on, your music, movies, or other personal files - use SpiderOak ONE for unparalleled privacy and peace of mind.SpiderOak on FreeNAS (alternative to Dropbox) Need access to your files but don't have your device? Simply log in and continue with your day. Backup and sync unlimited devices through your account. Drag and drop any file or folder into your SpiderOak Hive folder on your computer(s). SpiderOak ONE also syncs across all of your devices. Their panic immediately swept into relief, as they realized all their files were still safe and accessible.īut it's not just about the backup that runs quietly in the background, in a way that you might not even notice. You know the best time to backup your photos, files, or work? Before you need to! We hear from thousands of our users every year who had disaster strike - a house fire, a hard drive failure, stolen laptop, ransomware, to name a few - but they were safe because they had been regularly backing up their files with SpiderOak ONE. I'm as familiar with the writing of Lovecraft as I am with the music of Kanye West which, is to say, vague at best. But, having recently read Chaplinsky's debut short story collection, I knew I had to read it ASAP. This had been on my TBR list for a while, thanks mainly to the intrigue of the synopsis and the amazing cover (illustrated by Dyer Wilk and designed by Matthew Revert, two of the very best in the business). As for me, I am best off waiting for a classic rock version. But again, let's give credit to the author for a noble attempt and some very funny turns of phrases. if you are into rap and Lovecraft both, this might be "Da Bomb". Plus I took points away whenever anyone mentioned Kim Kardashian. and I think too many of them went over my head. There is clearly a number of in-jokes here. I did really get into the earlier days with Run-DMC, Public Enemy and up to NWA but then I tapered off. But I honestly know little to nothing about hip-hop. I love Lovecraft and I am a bit of a music freak from rock to jazz to soul. Maybe this is an acquired taste.Īnd I think i may have hit on the issue. There is a lot of references to the need for fresh beats and quite a few musicians and rappers take a beating, so to speak, from Biggie to Paul McCartney. West into the rapper/beatmaster Kanye West as he uses the beat and the mixes to revive dead bodies. The author had fun with this, using Lovecraft's serialized fiction, "Herbert West - Reanimator " and turning Mr. Yet even at its much less than a 100 pages length, it feels too long. P Lovecraft's style with the peculiarities of hip-hop. It is definitely funny and entertaining and it does an admirable job of blending H. Kanye West - Reanimator is somewhere in between. At best they are delightful diversions bringing out the best of the genres and authors they salute. I am still precariously on the fence with such endeavors. We can blame Seth Grahame-Smith for the literary mash-up.or at least for its popularization due to the mystifying success of Pride and Prejudice with Zombies. I would be hard pressed to call them anything but a novelty. Shoutout to Dyer Wilk (art) and Matthew Revert (design) for the dope ass cover. It’s a testament to Chaplinsky’s skills as a writer that he could take two different worlds (hip-hop and Lovecraft) and seamlessly stitch them together into a helluva entertaining book. Kanye West Reanimator is quirky yet entertaining biography of Kanye filtered through a Lovecraftian lens. However, it’s done in good taste and it’s obvious the author knows Kanye’s musical path pretty well. I can see a few people getting a little mad because a few jabs are taken at Kanye. Kanye stans with an open mind should enjoy the hell out of this book. The prose may be off-putting to those unfamiliar with Lovecraft’s work, but the rhythm should be easy to get used to. The story is told by a Lovecraftian narrator who poses as West’s friend throughout the book and co-conspirator in West’s efforts to re-animate the dead. Somewhere along the way, he becomes obsessed with reanimating the dead via his potent music. We follow West as he struggles to be recognized for both his production skills as well as his rapping. This slim book centers on Kanye West’s come up in the music industry and juxtaposes the story of the Reanimator with West’s widely successful music career. When I asked him about if he would produce similar works for tweets from celebrities and political figures like Cher or Donald Trump, he responded with “I don’t know maybe.Kanye West-Reanimator is the debut novella by Joshua Chaplinksy who is known as the managing editor of Litreactor. That was fun and entertaining but I wanted to make something. Everyone, whether they hate him or love him has been talking about him and his tweets. Kanye’s back on twitter and he’s been waxing poetic about life, creativity, and greatness. I got in touch with Gaskell and asked him a few questions about his work, mostly about what inspired him to publish Uh Huh Honey. In the book, Kanye’s inspiring tweets are accompanied by sketches by Gaskell, which he shared on his twitter. You have to protect your ability to create at all cost Try to avoid any contractual situation where you are held back from your ideas The book features some of Kanye’s more recent tweets, following themes of creativity and expressing one’s self. The latest in the trend of Rupi Kaur’s Milk and Honey parodies, Uh Huh Honey immortalizes Kanye’s tweets with accompanying illustrations by the author Red Gaskell. While not exactly the book we were expecting from Kanye West, Uh Huh Honey, will have to do until then. Hands-On Volume Activity Using the FormulaĮven though we move to using the formula for calculating volume, we are not done with hands-on activities. Grab these free posters for introducing and teaching volume by clicking here. Then, we test it out several times with new prisms before we officially decide that it is an effective and efficient formula for determining volume. I do this through an exploratory lesson where the students (at my guidance) use their unit cube prisms to derive the formula. Grab the free printables for this hands-on volume activity by clicking here!Īfter a few days of practice building prims and calculating volume, we are ready to move to the volume formula (length x width x height).
